—————-STEPJOB―Free job introduction throughout Japan————–
When living, studying and working in Japan, there is certainly no one among us who has not heard the phrase “Nenkin – 年金, Nenkin Book – 年金手帳” a couple of times.
So what is Nenkin????
Nenkin is pension insurance money. Paying nenkin is the obligation of everyone regardless of nationality when living and working in Japan from 20 years old and up to under 60 years old.
There are two types of Nenkin: national Nenkin 国民年金 and welfare pension 厚生年金
・Welfare pension 厚生年金 is usually for people who work full-time.
・National Pension 国民年金 is for people aged 20 and over who do not participate in the welfare pension 厚生年金.

For foreigners living, studying and working in Japan from 20 years old and up, if they participate in one of the two types of nenkin above or both for 6 months or more, after returning to their home country, they can apply to receive back a portion of the nenkin they have paid, called the 脱退一時金請求 procedure.
When you do this procedure, you will receive a portion of the money from the last 5 years of participating in nenkin.
Procedures for requesting a refund of nenkin money when returning home include:
1. Application form for refund of nenkin money 脱退一時金請求書 (国民年金/厚生年金保険)(You can receive this form at the nenkin office before returning home) or download it here.
